The explosions that rocked Maiduguri, Borno State capital has led to the death of ten persons, while 47 people have sustained injuries from the incident.

It was gathered that the figure was confirmed to the state Governor, Babagana Zulum by the hospital officials where the affected persons were taken to.

There were reports that the incident started at about 7:00 pm when multiple sources reported gunshots and explosions near the Gomari area of the state.

The sources claimed that the explosions were also heard in the Mairi area, a student’s village near the University of Maiduguri.

Following the incident, the military immediately deployed gun trucks to the area but there were reports indicating that worshippers in a mosque on the street called “Layin Bori” may have been killed.

Air patrol also commenced as the military combed the marked area around Gwange.

Earlier, Naija News had reported that troops of the Nigerian Army have recaptured Marte, an area in Borno state, from the hold of suspected members of the Islamic State in West African Province (ISWAP) – a faction of Boko Haram.

This was confirmed to TheCable on Tuesday by the spokesperson of the Army, Mohammed Yerima.

“Yes, we have recaptured the area,” he said.
