Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
The governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, spoke to his disappointment at not receiving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential ticket for 2023, which effectively disqualified him from consideration for the position of the nation’s future leader.
Speaking on Tuesday, Wike bemoaned the absence of dedicated leaders in Nigeria and expressed regret for not having the opportunity to deal with the bandits, terrorists, and other criminals operating in the country.
According to Track News, he mentioned this at the Rivers State opening of the dualized Ogbunuabali-Eastern bypass road.
Wike vowed to continue serving the people of Rivers State with a strong commitment to them despite losing the PDP ticket to Atiku Abubakar.
He declared, “I challenge everyone.” The problem this country is currently experiencing is a dearth of people who are passionate about giving back to their community.
“The one thing I wish I had done differently was to tell the bandits that enough is enough. The criminals understand that if I steal it, their window of opportunity would close. I’m sorry, but I don’t have it.
I’ll use the one I have, though, to assist my people and demonstrate to them their worth as deserving of happiness.
After losing the PDP presidential primary, there is thought to be a rift between Wike and the party’s leadership.
Since the final election of Ifeanyi Okowa as the PDP’s vice presidential candidate, the gap has grown even more.
Reconciliation has been called for and attempted, especially between Wike and Atiku, prior to the 2023 elections. It is acknowledged that these initiatives haven’t yet yielded results.
As a result, there have been rumors that the governor of Rivers may not support Abubakar in his campaign to become the next president of Nigeria.
