The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general election, Atiku Abubakar has paid a visit to Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State.
Recall that Tambuwal had withdrawn his presidential ambition and backed that of Atiku at the just concluded PDP presidential primary.
Former Vice President, Atiku defeated Governor Nyesom Wike, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, Governor Bala Mohammed, amongst others.
After the primary, Atiku and other PDP leaders paid a thank you visit to the residence of Tambuwal in Abuja.
The former Vice President was accompanied by former Kogi Senator, Dino Melaye and others.
Sources revealed to Vanguard that “Tambuwal’s stepping down from the race ensured Atiku’s victory at the convention as Rivers Governor, Nyesome Wike was on the verge of clinching the 2023 PDP’s presidential ticket.”
TrackNews reports that Tambuwal’s decision to step down for the former Vice President was the masterstroke that helped Atiku get the ticket over Wike, who many had thought would easily coast to victory.
