Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
Political analyst Deji Adeyanju has requested that Iyorchia Ayu, the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), resign from his position.
On Wednesday, Adeyanju said on his Twitter page that the former Senate President was a total liability for the opposition party and that Uche Secondus was a superior candidate.
He alleged that through selling tickets to presidential contenders, the PDP leadership under Ayu engaged in the worst type of corruption.
The ex-PDP member demanded Ayu’s resignation on the grounds that the party cannot have a Northern candidate and a Northern chairman.
Adeyanju penned: “Iyorcha Ayu ought to step down as PDP leader. He is the party’s total liability. In comparison to him, Secondus is a saint. Both a Northern candidate and a Northern chairman are incompatible. Selling tickets to candidates was the worst kind of corruption that the PDP under him engaged in.”
When he was chosen as the party’s chairman last year, Track News learns that Ayu reportedly pledged to step down if the party nominated a Northerner for president.
It was anticipated that Ayu would keep his word and vacate the seat for a Southerner as part of the efforts for the zoning considerations within the PDP after Atiku Abubakar emerged as the party’s presidential flagbearer.
Additionally, Ayu’s resignation has been demanded by supporters of Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike as a requirement to end the conflict between Atiku and the governor.
The PDP chairman, though, has insisted that he won’t be leaving anytime soon.
