Governor of the Central Bank of Nigerian (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has reacted to different calls for him to join the 2023 presidential race.

TrackNews reported that the CBN governor is being wooed by some big wigs in the All Progressive Congress, APC to declare his presidential ambition.

Though the Delta State-born is said to be non-partisan till this moment, top members of the ruling party are reportedly making moves to draft him into the fold ahead of the 2023 general elections.

It was gathered that the CBN governor has reportedly received strong backing from a section of the Presidency and some APC governors to throw his hat in the ring.

Speaking on Monday when he received a group tagged ‘Friends of Godwin Emefiele in his office in Abuja, Emefiele said only God knows who will succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

The CBN governor stated that he would leave his fate firmly in the hands of God, adding that he has not confirmed to anyone if he is running for President.

He, however, stated it is the prerogative of President Buhari to choose his successor in order to carry on his developmental strides and in line with global best practices for good governance.

Emefiele said he remains humbled by President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision to grant him an unprecedented second term as CBN Governor- again without lobbying.

The CBN governor stated he will continue to remain loyal to the President and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
