At least five cabinet members of the Kwara State government have resigned their appointments to contest for elective positions in the 2023 general elections, DAILY POST reports.

They include the Special Adviser on Special Duties, Yinka Aluko, Hajia Saa’datu Modibbo Kawu, Commissioner for Tertiary Education and Human Development, Hajia Fatima Arinola Lawal, Commissioner for Enterprise, Harriet Afolabi Oshatimehin, Commissioner for mineral resources and Mohammed Braimoh.

The State government had given all political appointees seeking elective offices in the next general elections an ultimatum to resign by April 15, 2022.

Saa’datu Modibbo Kawu announced her interest to contest for the House of Representatives seat at a media parley in the week with the NUJ Correspondents Chapel in Ilorin.

On his part, the Special Adviser on Special Duties, Yinka Aluko, announced his intention to contest the next elections through a letter to the state governor dated April 12, 2022.

Other appointees who have resigned so far could not be reached by DAILY POST at the time of this report.

However, two others, Dr Raji Rasaq, Commissioner for Health and Kayode Oyin Zubair, also interested in the 2023 elections are yet to make their interests public.

Although close to ten of the cabinet members of the governor are reported to be eyeing elective positions in the next dispensation, others are being expected to publicly declare their political ambitions before the primaries in May.
