Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports

For continuous growth and development, the Kaduna State government has developed a draft budget of N291,932,185,576.34 for 2023.

The draft budget includes recurrent estimates of N126,833,534,781.40 and capital estimates of N165,098,650,794.94.

In the next year’s budget, education and health account for 40% of the total sum of N65.7 billion, representing approximately 25% of the total sum, and N23.4 billion, representing approximately 15% of the total sum.

Umma During a town hall meeting with citizens accountability platforms in the principle of the Open Government Partnership (OGP), Yusuf Aboki, Commissioner, Planning and Budget Commission, explained that the 2023 draft budget was prepared based on macroeconomic assumptions, which include crude oil price at $70 per barrel, production benchmark at 1.69 million barrels per day, and exchange rate at 4

“The 2023 draft Budget was prepared with the expectation that the base effects would decline as economic activities in the non-oil sector normalized, implying that the economy will grow at a much faster pace during the year in question,” she says.

She stated that, as in previous years, the draft budget for 2023 was uploaded online a few days ago to ensure its openness and accessibility for public scrutiny, observations, comments, criticisms, and suggestions.

She also stated that in a message to participants at the town hall meeting, Governor Nasir El-Rufai stated that as his administration winds down in a few months, all ongoing projects would be completed.

She explained that the State government recognized early on the importance of involving citizens in all aspects of governance and purposefully institutionalized town hall meetings as a venue for citizens and government to engage, exchange ideas, co-create, and receive feedback.

According to her, these roundtable approaches to governance have ensured that government projects and policies remain people-centered, particularly in the spirit of the Open Government Partnership pioneered by Kaduna State in Nigeria.

As the administration nears its end, she reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to completing all ongoing projects before the transition in May 2023.
