2023: Moghalu explains why APC chose a Muslim-Muslim ticket

Kingsley Moghalu, a presidential candidate in the 2019 general election and a presidential aspirant in the 2023 elections, said on Friday that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APCMuslim-Muslim )’s ticket is a “political calculation,” not a declaration of religious war.

According to Track News, Moghalu stated via his verified Twitter handle that he is not surprised by the controversy surrounding the issue.

“As I recently stated in response to a question on @ARISEtv, the APC Muslim-Muslim ticket was intended as a political calculation rather than a declaration of “religious war.” Given the sensitivity of religion in Nigeria today, it should come as no surprise that it has sparked a storm,” said the former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

“It will be put to the test at the polls.” Today’s Nigeria is not the same as the one in which MKO Abiola won the presidency on a Muslim-Muslim ticket in 1993. What a difference a year can make. Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe ran for President on a Christian-Christian ticket with Prof Ishaya Audu in 1979.

“Obafemi Awolowo ran in the same election as the renowned lawyer Phillip Umeadi, who is also a Christian.” Shehu Shagari, a Muslim, ran against Christian Dr. Alex Ekwueme and won, albeit by the skin of his teeth for those who recall the 12 and 2/3rd judicial saga.

“Over the last three decades, it is clear that Nigeria’s nationhood trajectory has been downward rather than upward.” What or who will be the true “unifier”? My solution: a fundamental constitutional overhaul. #Restructuring.”
