The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Ahmed Audi has threatened to sanction any state Commandant over any reports of attacks on any facility belonging to the electoral umpire in their state of operations ahead of the February 2023 general elections.

He also charged the Corps personnel to protect all offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) across the federation.

However, the NSCDC has embarked on a 2-day capacity building workshop for all State Commandants and the Corps’ strategic managers to ensure that voters, domestic observers, election sensitive materials and electoral officers’ safety and security are well coordinated.

It also planned to release a revised standard operational guideline on election duties and other security rules for personnel to ensure a secured 2023 national electoral process.

Track News learnt that the training was being organized in partnership with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, tagged, “Preparing for the 2023 General Elections”.

The corps National Director, Public Relations, Olusola Odumosu said this in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja.

Further, the NSCDC boss said the strategic management workshop was for the development of common policy guidelines that could be used in deepening the capacity of personnel.

In his words, “We must protect INEC offices because they are critical national assets and the Corps will not take it lightly if we hear that INEC offices are attacked in any domain headed by any of you,” he warned.

Audi added that it was imperative for officers to acquaint themselves with the new electoral law for a seamless operation during the election.
