2023: Ogun police issues strong warning to politicians covering number plates

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the police in Ogun State have strongly warned politicians to desist from covering their vehicle number plates with the stickers of their various political parties.

The Ogun Police Command observed that the habit has been making it difficult for security agents to identify the registration numbers of such vehicles.

Abimbola Oyeyemi, Ogun police spokesman, said the act is inconsistent with best practices all over the world, saying it will no longer be tolerated in Ogun.

According to Oyeyemi, every vehicle must be identified with its number plate, stressing that anybody who covers his number plate has criminal intentions.

“The Command is hereby using this medium to warn those involved in this practice to desist from it henceforth, as standing order has been given to Area commanders and DPOs to clamp down on such violators,” he said.

Oyeyemi emphasised that there is nowhere in the road traffic act, where the sticker of a political party or any other sticker is allowed to be used in place of number plates.

“Therefore, anybody caught in such an act will be dealt with in accordance with the law. To be forewarned is to be forearmed,” he warned
