As Nigerians head towards the 2023 elections, the convener of World Teacher’s Day, Moses Paul, has highlighted the role of teachers in fighting for good governance.

Paul said teachers could educate the electorates in the area of electoral fraud.

He stressed that teachers are social agents of change; hence they ensure good governance in the society.

A statement Paul issued reads partly: “Education plays a fundamental part in the development of society. When the polity is properly educated, a new future is born. Teachers are the educators who shape future societies by their work.

“A teacher who is able to envision an egalitarian and ideal society is able to birth a whole new order of future leaders and citizens.

“In light of the above, Teachers are Social Agents of Change. No revolution in society can be complete without the involvement of teachers.

“Teachers are a mirror for society’s highest ideals. We can not be better than the teachers who steer us in our quest for knowledge.

On steps in getting involved for good governance, Paul said: “Say NO to vote buying in 2023 general elections.

“Discourage every involvement in violent acts before, during and after elections.

“Vote buying has become a disturbing feature in Nigeria’s democratic process. Buying and selling of votes has heightened the monetization of the electoral process whereby the highest bidder gets the most votes.
Vote-buying corrupts the electoral process and throws up the wrong candidates at the expense of good politicians. When wrong candidates emerge as winners, the country suffers. It is a criminal offence that affects the sanctity and credibility of the electoral process
