Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has described the former military head of state, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB) as a nation builder with a strong passion for Nigeria.

Kalu, a former Abia State Governor said the contributions of IBB to the nation’s development can’t be overlooked.

TrackNews Online recalls Babangida had named Kalu, the current lawmaker representing Abia North district as a possible successor for President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

The former military president stated this in a documentary aired on AIT on Sunday.

In a goodwill message issued on Monday to celebrate IBB who clocks 80 on August 17, Kalu appreciated the strong commitment of the former military leader to the unity and progress of Nigeria.

Describing IBB as an accomplished statesman, Kalu said the nation will continue to benefit from his experience.

He said: “On behalf of the people of Abia North Senatorial District, I felicitate with former President of Nigeria, Gen. Ibrahim Babaginda on the occasion of his 80th birthday.

“The former president has contributed immensely to the social, economic and political development of Nigeria.

“The former military ruler is a selfless, patriotic, and highly detribalized statesman.

“The country will continue to benefit from his wealth of experience in leadership.’’

While wishing IBB more years on earth, Kalu added that the celebrant deserves all the accolades for his patriotic contributions to the country and service to humanity.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has signed into law, the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) recently passed by the National Assembly.

This was confirmed in a statement on Monday by his spokesperson, Femi Adesina.

Adesina noted that Buhari signed the bill while working from home due to the COVID-19 quarantine which the President is observing after his return from the UK.
