The Bayelsa State Police Command has decorated 48 officers elevated from the rank of Inspector to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP). The ceremony took place on Wednesday at the Police Officers Mess in Yenagoa.
The event was presided over by the state Commissioner of Police, CP Francis Idu, who was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Sanusi Mohammed.
In his remarks, DCP Mohammed congratulated the newly promoted officers, reminding them that their new rank comes with increased responsibility and accountability. He urged them to conduct themselves with professionalism both in public and private life.
“Today, by His grace, you are moving from the inspectorate cadre to the prestigious cadre of the Superintendent of Police, which means more work and more responsibility,” Mohammed said. “Whatever decision you take will now be viewed more seriously by the Force and the government. You must ensure you act professionally and morally at all times.”
He encouraged the officers to invest in personal growth by refreshing their knowledge of police duties, acts, and regulations, and to pursue further education. He also advised them to maintain a neat and disciplined appearance, stressing that they are now role models to junior officers.
According to DCP Mohammed, the promotions were part of the Inspector-General of Police’s welfare initiative aimed at boosting morale within the Force. He noted that with their new rank, the officers are expected to provide guidance and leadership to subordinates.
“The Inspector-General of Police has concern about the welfare of his personnel, and elevation or promotion is part of the welfare package that can ginger the morale of personnel,” he said. “They are now in one of the prestigious cadres of the Force and are expected to give guidance to the rank and file, to lead them, and to make themselves role models.”
He conveyed the goodwill messages of IGP Kayode Egbetokun, the Commissioner of Police, and the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 16, wishing the newly promoted officers divine guidance and protection as they take on their expanded duties.
The promotion ceremony was attended by senior police officers, family members, and colleagues, who joined in celebrating the career milestones of the officers.
