4th Edition Of Comrade Sheriff Peace And Unity Quiz/Essay Competition. (See Photos)

•••Mulade Calls On South-South Governors To Pay More Attention On Education•••Says The Annual Quiz Competition ls Aimed At Promoting Education Awareness As Well As Building Peace And Unity In WarriTRACKING_____The convener and sponsor of the annual lnter-Local Government Quiz and Essay competition for rural/riverine secondary schools between ljaws, Itsekiris and Urhobo ethnic groups in the three Warri local government areas of Delta State, Comrade Mulade Sheriff has called on Nigerian government, particularly the South-South Governors to as a matter of urgency pay more attention on the education sector, stressing that education development will help to eradicate poverty, illiteracy and reduce youths restiveness in the country.Comrade Mulade made the call at a mammoth gathering of over Eight Secondary Schools cut across the three Warri Local Government Areas of Delta State, as the 2020 4th edition of Comrade Sheriff Mulade Peace and Unity Quiz/Essay Competition ended peacefully in the city of Warri.The event which took place on Wednesday 26th February, 2020 at Hussey College Warri, attracted top officials from Delta State Ministry of Education Asaba, and the Chief Inspectors of Education from the three Warri LGAs who monitored the exercise to a logical conclusion in a very transparent and peaceful atmosphere.In his opening speech, the sponsor of the competition, Comrade Sheriff Mulade, said the annual inter-local government rural secondary schools Quiz cum Essay Competition across the three Warri local government areas of Delta State is aimed at bridging the gap between the riverine schools and their urban counterparts, so that the coastal schools can have a full taste of what they have been denied over time in terms of academic competition and exposure.He stressed that, the programme is also to promote rural education development and sustain the existing peace among the three major ethnic nationalities within the three Warri LGAs, particularly the Ijaws, Itsekiris and Urhobo people.According to Mulade,” the Center For Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ) is to promote educational awareness in the riverine rural communities,and to assist the less privileged but highly intelligent students to pursue their education and career in life through scholarship support. The importance of education in the advancement of a nation cannot be over emphasized. Education is the back bone and the live wire of any nation’s economy growth and development .The Center therefore, uses this medium to appeal and charged Nigerian government, Delta State in particular to pay more attention to the educational sector. while multi-national oil companies operating within the areas should channel more of their Corporate Social Responsibility functions to educational development that will help to eradicate illiteracy and reduce civil unrest in their operational areas in line with Goal 4 of the SDGs, Comrade Mulade stated.”However, Alema Secondary School from Warri North LGA took first position in this year’s competition with #100,000 cash prize. Egbokoda Secondary School from Warri South took second with #70,000 cash prize. While Okerenkoko Secondary School from Warri South-West LGA emerged third with #50,000 cash prize among other consolation prizes.It will recall that representatives of all other participating schools, including the host Hussey College where given 80 leaves exercise note books, school bags and mathematical sets in accordance to their brilliant performances at the competition.
