5 commissioners to leave as Gov Emmanuel submits new nominees to state assembly for screening

Five commissioners in the state cabinet will be relieved of their appointments any moment from now as Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom has submitted list of new nominees to the state House of Assembly.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy at the end of state Executive Council meeting held on Thursday, March 17, 2022.

The statement read in parts, “The meeting commenced at midday with the Governor, presiding as Chairman-in-Council. In attendance at the meeting were, Secretary to the State Government, Head of the Civil Service, Honourable Commissioners and Special Adviser.

“The Chairman-in-Council announced that there executive Council will be reshuffled and that five Commissioners will be eased out. Consequently, names have been forwarded to the House of Assembly for screening and clearance.”

The statement added that the council also received an update on all ongoing projects by the various supervising Commissioners adding that the commissioners were charged to ensure speedy completion of the jobs under their care and to submit the dates for commissioning of all their projects.

“An update on the implementation of the Human Resource Management System Project was presented by the Head of the Civil Service, who praised the system for its effectiveness in administering the civil service.

“The ongoing strike by the Nigerian Union of Teachers received attention and council was briefed about the demands of the union.”

The council directed that the relevant ministries should take necessary steps to solve the problem immediately. A meeting with the Leadership of the Union is ongoing at the moment.
