Enogie Akenzua’s passing, Obaseki expressed his condolences.
Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
The Enogie of Obazuwa-Iko, HRH Edun Agharese Akenzua, passed away at the age of 87. Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki expressed his condolences.
When the Nigerian Observer Newspaper was first launched in 1968 by the administration of the late Brig-General Samuel Ogbemudia, he served as its first editor.
The governor of Benin City stated in a statement Wednesday that Enogie Akenzua was “a royalty per excellence, an exceptional blue blood, overflowing with wisdom, wit, and courage.” He was imposing and dedicated to defending the Benin principles of truth and societal harmony throughout his life.
“Enogie Akenzua led an illustrious life as one of Nigeria’s top journalists, a walking library who offered unmatched insight into Benin history and gave sharp and compelling answers on complex problems that perplexed many about the kingdom and the Nigerian country.
He was cerebral in his interactions, applying his extensive knowledge and experience to discussions about Nigeria’s past, present, and future. He was a fellow of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE).
The governor noted that due to the duke’s open-mindedness and cordial demeanor, Obazuwa dukedom experienced unprecedented growth and development during Enogie Akenzua’s rule. The dukedom also attracted new investments, which allowed existing investors to increase their holdings.
According to Obaseki, he was well-respected by his subjects, who frequently sought his wise advise despite the fact that he was active in a number of good causes and gave significantly to the cause of reclaiming stolen Benin artifacts.
Enogie Akenzua will be remembered for his steadfast adherence to the truth, unusual candor, love for his people, and commitment to the restoration of human dignity.
I offer my condolences to the Benin Royal family, the residents of the Obazuwa-Iko dukedom, and Enogie Akenzua’s friends, and I pray that God may give everyone the strength to endure the tragic loss.
