EPL: We discussed him – Bayern Munich make honest transfer confession about Ronaldo
By Adeleye Kunle
Bayern Munich CEO, Oliver Kahn, has made an honest confession that the Bundesliga champions ‘briefly discussed’ the possibility of signing Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo during the summer transfer window.
Ronaldo wanted to leave Man United during the summer to join a club that would offer him Champions League football.
The 37-year-old was heavily linked with the likes of Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Napoli during the summer transfer window.
However, Man United quickly stepped in and made it clear that they were not prepared to sell the Portugal captain.
“We briefly discussed Ronaldo at Bayern and Dortmund probably did too,” Kahn told newsmen. “We also see the big picture of the Bundesliga.
“Of course, superstars like Ronaldo are an important factor in attracting attention to the league. He is one of the greatest of the last decade. But we quickly dismissed that.”
Ronaldo’s current contract with Man United will expire at the end of the current season.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner was left out on the bench during Man United’s Premier League derby defeat to Manchester City last weekend.
The former Juventus and Real Madrid star will now hope to start when Man United clash with Cypriot outfit Omonia Nicosia in the Europa League on Thursday night
