Kidnappers kill Nigerian government official, body is missing.
Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
Shamsideen Abayomi Alamu, a kidnapped Nigerian government official, has gone missing days after he was killed.
He was the Assistant Chief Surveyor in the Federation’s Surveyor General’s Office (OSGoF).
Abayomi was kidnapped on October 3 near Yakwo Farms in Abaji while returning to Abuja from Iwo for a wedding.
According to Abu Michael, the OSGoF’s Head of Press, the late official was taken along with his mother and 7-year-old son (Abdulhaq Alamu).
When the assailants emerged from the bush and opened fire on the trio, they were in a Toyota Corolla with the registration number RSH 661NY.
Michael confirmed that Abayomi was murdered on October 6, while his mother and son were released the following day.
The spokesperson informed the public on Tuesday that efforts were underway to locate the body.
“When the Surveyor General of the Federation, Abudulganiyu Adebomehin, and his management team learned of his kidnapping, they swooped into action.”
“Through the intervention of family members, friends, and other relatives, the Office reliably gathered that he was killed on Thursday before the release of his mother and son on Friday.”
Michael also stated that security agencies were working to recover Abayomi’s remains and urged citizens to help the police by providing useful information.
The OSGoF mourns the loss of its 2021 Head of Civil Service Award Winner and “mapping maestro” from the Photogrammetry and Remote-Sensing Department.
After her release, her mother, Alhaja Afusat Alamu, revealed that the gunmen demanded N50 million, but only N2.35 million was raised, which was collected by the captors.
On December 9, 2013, Abayomi, an indigene of Iwo in Osun State, was recruited into the Federal Civil Service.
