How Can INEC Tell Us That Only 4% Of 215m Nigerians Gave Tinubu Victory – Mahdi Shehu
Dr. Shehu Mahdi, a prominent northern scholar and activist, has raised doubts about the results of the presidential election announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which declared Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner.
In an interview on ARISE TV’s ‘Prime Time’ program with Charles Aniagolu, Dr. Shehu, a supporter of the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) flag bearer, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, argued that the figures presented by INEC did not add up.
Dr. Shehu cited discrepancies in the figures presented by INEC, such as the number of registered voters, those who collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), those who were accredited to vote, and those who actually voted. He questioned where the missing voters had disappeared to and why INEC had remained silent on the issue.
Moreover, he pointed out that democracy was a game of numbers and that only four percent of the total population had supposedly elected Tinubu as president. He questioned how this could be considered a democratic outcome in a country of over 215 million people.
Dr. Shehu concluded by stating that only time would tell if INEC’s declared results would stand the test of time, and urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and uphold the principles of democracy.
