‘Caution your spokespersons’ – Northern elders counsel Tinubu, Atiku, others
The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) on Saturday called on political party leaders to caution their spokespersons from using damaging language that can heat up the polity.
In a statement by its Director of Publicity and Advocacy, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, sent to TrackNews , the forum said it had followed the conducts of political actors after the elections in February and March, and is displeased.
“The Forum is, however, concerned over rhetoric and exchanges, which raise tensions and fuel negative dispositions that threaten inter-community relations.
“Party leaders should restrain spokespersons from escalating damaging language and exchanges,” Baba-Ahmed said.
He however, appealed to Nigerians to allow the judiciary to undertake “its onerous responsibility” in a calm and peaceful atmosphere.
Furthermore, NEF reminded the judiciary that Nigerians look up to it to salvage democracy and restore the faith of people of the country in its integrity and competence.
