Sudan Fault RSF for attack on Turkish evacuation plane
Sudan’s embassy in Abuja has condemned in strong terms the attack on the Turkish evacuation plane. It accused rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of perpetrating the attack.
This is contained in a statement released in Abuja by Mohamed Abdelmannan, the Sudanese Ambassador to Nigeria.
The ambassador said the terrorist act was an attempt to obstruct the evacuation efforts of the diplomats and foreign nationals.
“In a flagrant violation of the truce, the rebel RSF heavily shot at a Turkish evacuation plane as it was landing at the Wadi Sayidna Military Airport on the morning of Friday, 28th of April 2023,
“This resulted in damaging its fuel system and injuring one of the aircraft crew.
“In spite of that, the plane landed safely and its reparation process is currently ongoing.
“The ministry condemns this terrorist act by the rebel RSF for violating the truce and its attempt in obstructing the evacuation efforts of the diplomats and foreign nationals.
“The ministry calls on the International Community to condemn this criminal act of the rebel RSF.”
On April 15, conflict broke out across Sudan, mainly in the capital, Khartoum and the Darfur region, between rival factions of the country’s military government.
The fighting began with attacks by the RSF on key government sites.
Airstrikes, artillery and heavy gunfire were reported across the country including the capital Khartoum.
As of April 15, both RSF leader Mohamed Dagalo and Sudan de facto leader Abdel Al- Burhan claimed to be in control of key government sites, including the general military headquarters, the presidential palace, Khartoum International Airport, the Army chief’s official residence as well as the Sudan TV headquarters.
