BREAKING: FG plans to End Nationwide Strike, Meets with NLC and TUC Leaders
In an effort to bring the ongoing nationwide strike by Organised Labour to an end, the Federal Government has invited the leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) to a meeting this afternoon.
The meeting, convened by the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), is expected to address the grievances that have prompted the strike, including the alleged brutalization of NLC President Joe Ajaero by security operatives in Owerri, Imo State, and outstanding salary arrears for workers.
The NLC and TUC declared an indefinite nationwide strike on Tuesday, November 14, in response to the incident in Imo State and to protest a range of other labor issues, including the unjust declaration of 11,000 workers as ghost employees, unsettled gratuities, non-compliance with the N30,000 minimum wage act, and the declaration of 10,000 pensioners as ghost retirees.
