Calls for Removal of Imo Governor Uzodimma as Progressive Governors Forum Chairman
In the wake of the chaotic Edo APC gubernatorial primary, former Director General of the Voice of Nigeria and APC stalwart, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, has urged the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) to oust Governor Hope Uzodimma as its chairman, citing concerns that he may “wreck our great party.”
Okechukwu’s call comes in response to the mishandling of the primary election in Edo State, which was overseen by Governor Uzodimma.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Okechukwu appealed to the PGF to take urgent action and remove Uzodimma from his position as chairman, accusing him of mismanaging the Edo State gubernatorial primary election, which resulted in the emergence of three candidates.
Questioning the rationale behind entrusting Uzodimma with another assignment after allegedly botching a similar task in Edo four years ago, Okechukwu raised concerns about the breach of laws and disregard for due process in announcing election results.

Okechukwu highlighted the urgent need for the chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum to focus on advising the President and addressing Nigeria’s economic challenges, rather than engaging in political assignments that distract from critical issues.
He emphasized the need for the APC to repair the damage inflicted on the party’s image by Governor Uzodimma’s actions, particularly his endorsement of the invalidated primary election.
While acknowledging Uzodimma’s apology for the errors, Okechukwu stressed the importance of preventing similar incidents in the future to safeguard the integrity of the Progressive Governors Forum.
Okechukwu recounted previous instances where Uzodimma allegedly mishandled political assignments, citing the adverse impact on APC membership and electoral outcomes in the Southeast region.
He underscored the urgent need for corrective measures to address the fallout from Uzodimma’s leadership, warning of the potential consequences for the party’s fortunes in future elections.
