Ortom: President Buhari Talks Tough, Issues Fresh Orders
President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday, ordered security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into events surrounding the attack on Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom.
The President in a statement by his senior special assistant on publicity, Garba Shehu also added that those responsible must be apprehened and made to face the full wrath of the law.
Buhari who condemned Saturday’s attack on Ortom in Benue State said the attack on one citizen is an attack on all Nigerians.
He also warned against politicizing the attack and other security challenges in the country.
The President’s statement through his media aide reads: “President Muhammadu Buhari strongly condemns the attack on Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, saying the string of brutal attacks on individuals and communities in the state, with the latest one targeting the governor, was unacceptable.”
“The President welcomes the dispatch of a high level team of crack investigators to the state from the Police headquarters in Abuja, urging the officers to uncover who, or whatsoever, was behind the attacks and bring them to justice.”
“In expressing his sympathies, and that of the government of the federation to Governor Ortom and all Benue indigenes, President Buhari said the unfortunate incident must not be politicized, reiterating that an attack on one Nigerian is an attack on all Nigerians.”
“The President directed the Police to undertake a thorough investigation into the incident involving the governor and into all such incidents affecting individuals and communities in the state.”
“Let there be open and transparent investigation and whoever is linked to it should be caught and be made to face the law.”
Meanwhile, Alhaji Bashir Tofa has warned the Muhammadu Buhari led-federal government not to ignore the Biafra Customary Government (BCG) proclaimed by Alhaji Asari Dokubo.
Recall that Dokubo, the leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Salvation Force (NDPSF), who noted in the statement he released through Uche Mefor to journalists in Warri on the declaration of a “Biafra de facto customary government” said the time has come for them to take their destinies in their hands, adding that the Igbo people have long suffered injustice and marginalization in Nigeria.
Apart from declaring himself the leader of the customary government, Dokubo also named Uche Mefor as the Head of Information and Communication of the customary government, George Onyibe as Secretary of the group, and Emeka Esiri as the officer in charge of its legal matters.”
