Abia FA headquarters taken over by overgrown grass, bushes

Abia State Football Association, FA secretariat in Umuahia has been overtaken by bushes, exposing staff, footballers and visitors to the building to a possible snake attack.

The building, which was built with funding from the Federation of International Football Associations, FIFA and support from Abia State government, now looks like a grazing land, rather than a supposed football administration house.

A recent visit to the facility by Track news showed that the front, back and side areas of the building look uninhabitable even as officials who used the premises daily, worked in the unkempt environment, unperturbed by the overgrown grass.

Also, the multi-million naira building which is adjacent to Abia State Civil Service Commission headquarters, off Finbers Road, has no fence and one of the front doors to the building is damaged, exposing important equipment and files in the building to possible burglary.

Findings equally showed that despite the erection of the modern building, most staff of the FA still prefer to operate from the Abia State Ministry of Sports while others stay at Umuahia township stadium and Abia Warriors Football Club office at School road, Umuahia.

Abia State Commissioner for Sports and former Super Eagles player, Karibe Ojigwe was not in his office to react to the matter as he was said to be on important official engagement elsewhere.

But a staff of the FA who did not want his name in print, blamed the untidy environment on the rains, saying that the facility was recently cleared of weeds.

” You know the rains are here and grasses grow rapidly in this season. We usually clean this place up and clear the grass but once it rains, the grass grows back” said the FA staff
