Mr. Dumebi Kachikwu, presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, pleaded with striking lecturers on Tuesday night to consider the plight of Nigerian students and return to the classroom despite the Buhari government’s failure to meet their demands.

Kachikwu made the request during an emergency meeting of the party’s National Executive Council in Abuja.

The politician, who addressed the various challenges that the current administration has thrown at Nigerians, stated that there was hope for a new Nigeria under the ADC government next year.

Given the frequency of jailbreaks and mass killings of innocent Nigerians in churches and other places with no response from the government, Kachikwu described the current administration as a disaster.

“Under the Buhari administration, Nigeria has witnessed unprecedented calamity second only to the Nigeria civil war,” Kachikwu said.

“Tales of woe from Taraba, Kogi, Niger, Abuja, Katsina, Zamfara, Borno, Sokoto, Kaduna, Ondo, Imo, and Anambra.” Many mothers are in tears. Many a bereaved wife. Many families were left to mourn in silence and helplessly. Nobody has lost their job as a result of this. There has been no resignation of a minister, national security adviser, or President. A country’s shame. Who was it that did this to us? We reduce the dead to numbers such as “scores killed,” “dozens killed,” and “hundreds killed.” Don’t we know what their names were?

“Today’s terrorists will be tomorrow’s killers.” Religion will divide us tomorrow if it is introduced into politics today. Politics and politicians that we avoid today will rule us tomorrow. We will be destroyed by the hatred we cultivate today. We cannot avoid these realities. Let us act immediately to save Nigeria.

“Let us speak in unison. Let them not divide us. Don’t let them switch parties and dupe you. Don’t let them deceive you by changing logos. They have done that if they have been there. Take them out.

When I announced my intention to run for the highest office in the land several months ago, I knew it was a suicide mission. I was well aware of the stakes. I had no doubts about the abilities of those in the more well-known parties. I was expecting the hound dogs to come after me.

Nigerians are hungry, they are in pain, and they are afraid. This is the hill ahead of us. We must understand that before we can talk about elections, we must first have a country. Who is going to save Nigeria? Who will deliver Nigeria from its current government? Who is going to save Nigerians from Nigerians? You.

Today is the day to restart. Today, we must chart a new path. Today, we must make the decision to fight for Nigeria. We must now fight for ourselves. Let us look within to find the strength to begin again. We must reclaim our country from these evil men. We must repel all intruders.

Block by block, we must defend our lands, cities, and country. This is our patriotic obligation. We will no longer be divided by religion, tribe, or tongue. Those who have destroyed our country come from all tribes, languages, and religions, so we must not be misled. They are the exception. We are the vast majority. We have suffered and endured for far too long, and we must continue to do so.

They’ll seduce you. They will make assurances. They will claim to have changed. They will make threats against you. They will humiliate you. They will imprison you. Whatever they do to you, just bear it because in a short time, in the near future, our small voices, actions, protests, plans, and groups will combine to form a powerful rescue mission to save our nation.

You must persevere. We must persevere. In your communities, architects and town planners form groups. Create a master plan for the community you want to see in your city. Engineers collaborate in your various cities to design the infrastructure we require. Create the necessary power grids. Begin with the design. Begin with the plan.

Contribute your quota to a new and better constitution that divides us rather than the corrupt one that divides us now, lawyers, civil society groups, men and women of good will.

“Lecturers return to their classes.” You’ve already made sacrifices. Make one more sacrifice for the sake of our children. This government is unable to meet your demands. They are bankrupt. They cannot give what they do not possess.

“Please return to class and save our children’s future.” Nobody cares that our medical personnel are fleeing the country in droves. Who will work in our hospitals? Who will look after the sick?

“Are we going to trust quacks with our healthcare?” No.

Today, we must take a stand for Nigeria. “It is the right thing to do,” said Kachikwu.

When his party wins the election next year, he promises to rebuild Nigeria and make it work for everyone, regardless of tribe, tongue, religion, or political affiliation.

Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu, National Chairman of ADC, boasted that the party was on a mission to rescue Nigeria from its current state of somnolence, make it work better for all, and give Nigerians a sense of pride and hope.
