Addressing The Concerns Of Diarrhoeal Diseases By The Commissioner, Ministry Of Health Bayelsa State

As the Commissioner, Ministry of Health, Bayelsa State, I understand the deep concerns and anxieties our people are facing during this challenging time. The recent outbreak of diarrhoeal diseases in some of our communities has understandably caused alarm, and I want to assure you that your health and wellbeing are our top priorities.
When we first received reports of increased cases of vomiting and diarrhea, particularly in the Isoni community of Sagbama LGA, we sprang into action immediately. We also responded to health emergencies in NEMBE LGA, Southern Ijaw LGA, and KOLGA within 24 hours, our teams were on the ground, providing the necessary commodities and linking the affected areas to our primary and secondary healthcare facilities.
We are proud to say that through our coordinated efforts, working closely with community leaders, the Red Cross, WHO, UNICEF, and dedicated volunteers, we have been able to manage this outbreak effectively. Over 600 citizens have received inpatient and outpatient care across our facilities, and I am relieved to report that we have not recorded a single mortality in any of our health facilities
However, I know that the work is not done.
We must continue to strengthen our healthcare system, improve access to quality care, and empower our communities to be active participants in maintaining their own health and wellbeing.
That is why we are working tirelessly to ensure that every primary healthcare facility in Bayelsa has the necessary infrastructure, including staff accommodation, to provide comprehensive services. We are also exploring innovative ways to incentivize our healthcare workers, so that they are motivated to serve our people with the utmost care and compassion.
Furthermore, we are committed to enhancing our emergency response capabilities, building on the lessons learned from this recent outbreak. Our goal is to create a resilient and equitable healthcare system that can swiftly address any public health challenges that may arise.
We understand the frustrations and concerns that many of you may have. Please know that, the Ministry of Health inline with the ‘ASSURED Agenda’ of the prosperity administration led by His Excellency Senator Douye Diri can hear you alql, and we’re dedicated to finding lasting solutions that will improve the health and quality of life for all Bayelsans.
Together, we can build a stronger, healthier Bayelsa.
As a Ministry we are here to serve Bayelsans and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that the health and wellbeing of every citizen of Bayelsa are always our top priority.
We urge the public to adhere to preventive measures such as, proper hand hygiene, safe water consumption, and maintaining adequate sanitation. The Ministry of Health remains available to any questions or concerns from the public.
Thank you for your trust and support. Let us move forward, united in our commitment to a healthier Bayelsa.
