The inaugural Unity Football Competition organized by the Michael Bless Olomu Foundation will culminate in a highly anticipated grand finale on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at the Ebedebiri Center in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

The final match, scheduled for 1:00 p.m. prompt, will feature Akeddei Football Club facing off against Ebedebiri Football Club in what promises to be a competitive and spirited contest.

The football tournament, launched under the theme “Building a Better Society,” was initiated with the goal of promoting unity, youth empowerment, and social engagement through sport.

Over the past several weeks, the event has brought together young athletes, community leaders, and sports enthusiasts across Sagbama LGA to celebrate talent and the values of teamwork and sportsmanship.

The competition has featured a series of matches coordinated by a Local Organizing Committee (LOC), which worked alongside local supporters to create a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere.

Players have demonstrated skill, determination, and fair play, drawing praise from fans and stakeholders alike. According to organizers, the energy and enthusiasm observed throughout the tournament reflect the broader goals of fostering community cohesion and encouraging meaningful youth participation in local development.

Before the championship match, the third-place playoff will take place between Aduku Football Club and United Football Club. This match is also expected to draw a strong crowd, as both teams look to conclude their campaign with a podium finish.

The grand finale is expected to draw a cross-section of the Sagbama community, including youth advocates, sports lovers, and traditional and political stakeholders.

Organizers say the event is more than a football match; it is a platform to highlight the transformative potential of youth-focused initiatives and the role of sport in uniting diverse communities.

Speaking ahead of the event, the foundation emphasized the importance of community participation in promoting sustainable development.

The competition, according to the foundation, aligns with broader efforts to provide constructive avenues for young people to channel their energy, talents, and ambitions.

The Michael Bless Olomu Foundation has expressed gratitude to all participating teams, volunteers, and supporters who contributed to the success of the tournament.

The foundation also extended an open invitation to the public to attend the grand finale, noting that community support would serve as a strong encouragement to the young players who have worked hard to reach this final stage.

As the countdown to the final match continues, excitement is building within Sagbama and surrounding areas. Observers say the tournament has already made a significant impact by creating a platform for engagement, identifying local talent, and reinforcing the importance of unity through communal events.

The championship clash between Akeddei FC and Ebedebiri FC will serve as the highlight of this year’s football celebration. With both teams having demonstrated consistent performance throughout the competition, fans are anticipating a highly competitive match.

Organizers assure that preparations for the event are in top gear, with logistics, security, and venue arrangements being finalized to ensure a smooth and safe experience for all attendees.

The foundation reiterated its commitment to sustaining such initiatives in the future, citing the success of this year’s maiden edition as a foundation for further youth and sports development programs.

The Michael Bless Olomu Foundation has called on community members to show their support by attending the grand finale, underscoring that their presence would not only boost morale among the players but also reaffirm the collective commitment to nurturing a better, more inclusive society.
