Concerned about the never-ending feud between some traditional rulers in Ondo State over the closure of markets during festivals, the state government banned such closures across the state yesterday.

Mrs Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, stated that the decision was part of the weekly States Executive Council meeting held in Akure.

“There shall be no market closures in any part of the State without the governor’s approval,” Ademola-Olateju stated.

“The state exco took note of the permit granted for the state’s traditional festivals.”

“The government hereby reiterates that no markets shall be closed without the Governor’s approval.”

“Where permission is granted, it shall be limited to the Oba’s market and not to shops in residential areas.”

“The Ondo State Executive Council has promoted some traditional rulers to different grades across the state.”

“Likewise, the council approved the elevation of some Chiefs to the status of Obas in various communities.”

“The government will publish the names and upgraded grades of the affected Monarchs in a white paper that will be made available to the public soon.”

Ademola-Olateju went on to say that the Council also resolved and legalized disputed stools in the state.
