Allies Battle To Save Sports Minister As Tinubu Set To Reshuffle Cabinet

With President Bola Tinubu reportedly preparing for a major cabinet reshuffle, political allies and supporters of Sports Minister, John Enoh, are reportedly scrambling to secure his position.
Tinubu has been under mounting pressure to activate his promise to sack under-performing ministers. The President while establishing the Result and Delivery Unit, led by the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Co-ordination, Mrs. Hadiza Bala-Usman, to assess the performance of ministers and other senior government officials had said that any minister or aide who did not meet expectations would be removed from their position.
However, our correspondent reliably learnt the President is about to carry out a cabinet reshuffle and sources said Enoh is one of the ministers to be affected by the impending exercise.
Enoh, who has faced mounting criticism over Nigeria’s disappointing performance in recent international sporting events, especially the Olympics, now finds himself in a precarious position, our correspondent has learnt.
Enoh’s tenure as Sports Minister has been marred by a series of setbacks, the most notable being Nigeria’s underwhelming showing at the last Olympic Games.
The nation’s failure to secure any medal at the Paris 2024, coupled with organisational mishaps noticed before and during the competition, have drawn the ire of the public and sports enthusasts alike.
