Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports

Rotimi Akeredolu, the governor of Ondo State, requested the federal government Monday to permit Amotekun and other state security organizations to carry advanced weapons to defend the populace.

Additionally, Akeredolu made clear his opinion with regard to the contract for oil pipeline surveillance that was given to private individuals and organizations.

He addressed during the OSOPADEC (Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development Commissionnewly )’s constructed office complex’s commissioning in Akure.

Governor Akeredolu lamented the perilous security scenario in the nation and vowed to grab the bull by the horns in order to save the state’s citizens.

“My opinion is to permit Amotekun to carry heavy weapons like the non-state actors that were hired to defend the oil pipelines,” he said.

“The majority of individuals, including some of my coworkers, didn’t truly get my stance on the contract for the surveillance of oil pipelines.

“I have no problem with the federal government hiring anyone for surveillance. It belongs to the federal government. It is theirs to utilize anyway they like.

“We’re buying Amotekun here with our money. In my speech headed “Who Actually Needs Weapon,” I also argued that the Federal Government should permit Amotekun to carry advanced weapons, just like the contractors they hired to monitor pipelines.

“Why won’t you allow Amotekun to carry a sophisticated weapon to protect the people if you can allow people to carry heavy weapons to guard pipelines?” The lives of the people are more important than the oil facilities.

Governor Akeredolu noted that the victims who have been freed are afraid to return and find their captors. He claimed that some arrests have been made in relation to the abduction of some burial guests in Ifon over the weekend.
