APC: Babachir, Dogara Clear The Air On Why They Visited Wike

All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders who paid a visit to Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike over the weekend have dispelled rumors about the purpose of their visit.
According to Track News, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, and the ex-Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, met with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain on Saturday at his private residence in Rumueprikom, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The visit by the ruling party’s chieftains, on the other hand, has elicited a variety of reactions, with many speculating that it was political in nature.

Their visit came just 24 hours after Wike broke his silence following the PDP’s presidential primary, in which former Vice President Atiku Abubarkar emerged as the party’s nominee.

In a phone interview with Tracknews on Saturday, Babachir, Dogara, and other party stakeholders, however, said they were free to visit anyone.

People who have the wrong impression about the visit, he says, should understand that he worked with the governors while he was the SGF.

“We are free to visit anyone in the country,” Babachir said. Those insinuating anything should be aware that I was the Secretary to the Federation’s Government and worked with all of the governors.

“As a result, we are free to visit anyone.” Everything is not political, and those who suggest otherwise are free to do so.”

Earlier in Port Harcourt, the former SGF told journalists that their visit to Rivers State was merely a brotherly visit to the governor.

“We came to see our brother,” he explained. He (Wike) is our younger brother. So, the Bible encourages you to pay each other visits on occasion. That is exactly what we did.”

Babachir insisted that their conversation with Wike was unrelated to the meeting of some northern leaders in Abuja on Friday.

“No, there are numerous reasons in the world why you should visit a brother.” “As a result, the visit has nothing to do with our meeting in Abuja,” he clarified.

Dogara, for his part, stated that their visit was part of their quest to build an inclusive Nigeria.

“Everyone agrees with us that Wike is one of those indispensable political leaders,” he said. For us, it is a quest to create an inclusive Nigeria.

“As part of the agenda setting, we believe we should meet with him, which is why we are here.” For the rest, whatever it is, we can discuss it in the future,” he said.
