APC candidate for governor in Enugu “rejects” Tinubu’s campaign funding

Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports

Uchenna Nnaji, the All Progressives Congress’s candidate for governor in Enugu State, stated on Sunday that the party’s current dilemma was caused by the state’s election campaign funding.

Nnaji suggested delaying the anticipated campaign funding from APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu until after the election if it would cause the party to become unstable. He made this suggestion at an emergency stakeholders meeting held at the party’s South-East zonal office.

“The money from Tinubu’s campaign is the root of the current APC crisis in Enugu. The so-called stakeholders are competing for control and the right to oversee how Tinubu’s money is used.

“We do not want Bola Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate, to use campaign funds to influence the general election in Enugu State in 2023. By God’s special grace, we will use Enugu APC resources to conduct the election in 2023, and the party will reimburse us thereafter. The Enugu APC crisis is being brought on by Tinubu’s finances.

“I’m going to Abuja tomorrow (Monday) to tell the party’s national chairman that we don’t want campaign funds after this urgent meeting. I’ll meet Tinubu, our presidential candidate, on Tuesday, and I’ll say the same thing to him.

Nnaji, however, urged the “Abuja stakeholders” to return home and work with him to rally party supporters at the local level so that the party can win the election.

Prior to the election in 2023, he claims that he has traveled through 184 wards and 204 villages across 13 LGs in the state with Agballah and his executives.

It is unique in the party’s history in the state, and it demonstrates how well-prepared we are to both run for office and win it, he said.

He regretted that, only about six months before the election, the nastiness makers are trying to oust the party’s executives while the party is now being repositioned to win an election. “We want to be modest but powerful.”

Before Agballah assumed the position of chairman, Nnaji insisted that the APC had never been in Enugu State as a political party, but that “we have awakened and held the promise of a brighter future for our people.”

“Our leaders who want Agballah gone didn’t even pay for their ward offices in different neighborhoods. They want to get rid of us, but we are here to fix the system. Our executives are doing well and should receive all the help they require. No other party is capable of starting the kind of tour we are.”

In the meantime, the party members present at the meeting unanimously approved the party executive led by Chief Agballah.
