.Say, Atiku, Obi also promised subsidy removal

Against the nationwide outrage following the phased withdrawal of fuel subsidy, Bayelsa State Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC Dr. Dennis Otiotio
has thrown his weight behind the decision of President Bola Tinubu.

This was as he declared that the Tinubu-led administration is only implementing one of its campaign promises, adding however that measures would be put in place to cushion the effect of the shock of withdrawal of fuel subsidy.

The Chairman Dr. Dennis Otiotio made the declaration on Wednesday during a meeting with party leaders and supporters in the state. According to Dr. Otiotio, the main opposition presidential candidates, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, and Peter Obi of Labour Party LP also made promises to remove the subsidy because it had generally become unsustainable.

He said; “As a Chairman of the state I am committed to the ideals of the APC led federal government and everything that is contained in the manifesto of our great party during our campaigns is meant to be implemented to bring the needed development to Nigeria.

“On the issue of fuel subsidy, all the presidential candidates during the campaigns promised that they will remove fuel subsidy.

“The president Buhari government before leaving office made it abundantly clear that fuel subsidy was no longer sustainable. What we are talking about now is the implementation process. How to implement the subsidy removal in such a manner that it will not be too hard on the people, and I think the government is working on it.

“I have utmost confidence in the ability of our new president to navigate through the waters and take decisions that will be in the best interest of our people and the country”.

On the leadership of the 10th National Assembly, Dr. Otiotio called on all elected Senators and House of Representatives members on the platform of APC to follow the directive of the Party and President Tinubu in electing the National Assembly leadership so as to avoid a repeat of what happend in 2015.
