APC vows to appeal judgement as court sacks Oyetola, deputy

The chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Osun State chapter, Prince Gboyega Famodun, has enjoined all the members of the party and supporters to put their minds at rest over the Federal High Court, Abuja, ruling over the nomination of Governor Gboyega Oyetola as the candidate of the party in the July 16, 2022 governorship election.

The federal High Court nullified the nomination of Oyetola and his Deputy, Benedict Alabi on the ground that Governor Mai Buni, who submitted their names to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) violated the provisions of Nigeria constitution.

Buni, according to the court, violated Section 183 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Section 82(3) of the Electoral Act 2022.

Reacting to the judgment, the APC chairman in a statement signed by his Media Adviser, Kola Olabisi, blamed the the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for allegedly trying to put the APC in disarray.

The exercise, Famodun said, was a mere distraction ploy by the PDP to disorganise and put the APC in disarray on the grounds that opposition’s handlers were aware of the brighter chance of the APC and its candidate in the ongoing governorship election petition tribunal in Osogbo.

Famodun accused the PDP of instituting the case against the APC candidate, however, appealed to the party members and supporters to remain calm, explaining that the team of the party lawyers would be challenging the decision at the Court of Appeal.

He argued that only the members of the APC who participated in the primary election have the legal authority to challenge the nomination of candidate of the party
