The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has protested the All Progressives Congress (APC) choice of a Muslim-Muslim ticket for the 2023 presidential election in the 19 northern states and the federal capital territory (FCT), TrackNews reports.

Bola Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate, announced Kashim Shettima, the former governor of Borno state, as his running mate on July 10.

Nigerians, however, have expressed mixed feelings about the development.

Sunday Oibe, secretary-general of northern CAN, told journalists on Monday in Kaduna that the APC’s decision is insensitive, adding that the Christian body will “not lose sleep” over the APC’s choice because there are other political parties to consider.

“As an organization, we are not losing sleep over a political party’s decision that has no regard for our diversity and the ethno-religious tensions that threaten our fragile peace and existence as a country,” Oibe said.
