– *leaders also ask for help.
– the spate of decamping is worrisome.*
Although decamping is a normal in any political unit particularly because it relates ambitions and aspirations, the recent observed spate of decamping in the PDP is rather worrisome.
The number keeps increasing by the day and those decamping are invaluable hands.
First and foremost, we as a group frown at and condemn in it’s entirety, the divisive and negative branding of those decamping as well as the immature and mischievous association of same with a respected political leader in the state. People reserve the right to align with any political platform of their choosing especially if they believe their dreams and aspirations will be realized and as such deserve respect whether or not their choices are right or wrong.
That being said, politics is a game of numbers and as such no person is useless and we must at this point in time discard any attempt to portray anyone as such.
In the past, the political tool of dialogue, negotiation and consultation was employed in handling internal party affairs before they even surfaced but what is observed now is nothing close to this.
It is obvious that those decamping are not pleased ( which they are entitled to) with certain recent political decisions made by the governor and the party coupled with fact that the customary reconciliatory organ of the party which usually commences operation even before any election, is either ineffective or non-existent. These are terrible signs which portends doom for the party.
The PDP as a party in the state has so far provided a solid political platform for many youths, women and men alike in the state to learn, develop politically and even actualize their political dreams. Many more have found reason to aspire for leadership position by reason of this.
Others that are not politically inclined have benefitted from appointments, employments, government contracts, projects and policies which are all being threatened by the recent events in the party.
We have always known the PDP as a family where members could have disagreements but with customary channels through which these disagreements are resolved.
It is now expedient for His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri to play his role as leader of the party in the state and bring all together for talks.
At this point in time, His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri must look inwards and tell himself the truth. The task of managing a state as politically charged as Bayelsa is truly daunting and requires the co-operation of elders and leaders in the party.
We are aware that Senator Dickson, an experienced chieftain of the party, has by choice maintained a reasonable distance from the affairs of governance in the state. This is quite commendable and a remarkable deviation from the norm. However, this position is no longer healthy for the party.
We hereby appeal to Governor Douye Diri to formally reach out to his former boss and other leaders and elders of the party, requesting them to wade into the prevailing.
We also appeal to His Excellency, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson as well as other party elders and leaders to at this critical hour of need, to show leadership as they are known and respected for.
The general elections are months away and much can be done if all hands are on deck.
This appeal is coming from the Bayelsa Youths Frontier.
