Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports

The Muslim Congress (TMC), the world’s largest Islamic organization, has warned the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) against disobeying a court order.

TMC instructed ASUU to end its strike as ordered by the Appeal Court on Friday.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja ruled that before it could grant ASUU’s appeal application, the union must first obey the lower court’s decision by returning to the classroom.

Following a suit filed by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Labor and Employment, the National Industrial Court ruled that ASUU should resume operations.

TMC Secretary-General, Alhaji Hassan Adesina, who represented the Amir (President), Alhaji Abdul Wasi’i Bangbala, blamed ASUU and the Federal Government for the prolonged strike at a press conference in Lagos.

TMC stated that universities must have alternative funding options, noting that total reliance on the federal government would put the institutions under pressure.

It called for policy-based campaigns in 2023 elections.
