Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports

Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, has outlined his plan to unite the country if elected President in 2023.
The former Vice President stated that he would work to bridge the gap between the country’s various regions and ethnic groups, stating that Nigerians must think and work together to progress.

Atiku, who was represented by his running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa, said this on Sunday in Abuja at a town hall meeting for presidential candidates organized by Arise Television and the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD).

The Delta State Governor promised that his principal would unite and lead the country toward development with the help of the private sector.

Okowa also emphasized the importance of the private sector in the Nigerian project that Atiku hopes to lead if elected President.

“Atiku is a successful businessman and a person who runs very successful academic institutions,” he explained. We have a document called ‘My Covenant with Nigeria,’ which is a joint document signed by him, myself, and the PDP.

“The private sector must play a role.” To make progress, we must discuss the country’s unity. We may not be able to travel the path that will lead us to new growth until we can unite and recognize that we must think and work together.”

On how to address the country’s security challenges, Atiku stated that there is a need to strengthen coordinated intelligence gathering and sharing among security agencies.

The PDP presidential candidate also advocated for police decentralization, stating that the country’s current policing system is ineffective.

“We need to emphasize coordinated intelligence gathering and sharing,” he said. To address insecurity in Nigeria, we need more boots on the ground. We need to evolve policing in Nigeria so that people with a better understanding of their surroundings know how to secure them. The demands that we have cannot be met by a single centralized police force.

“More boots on the ground are required.” We require adequate welfare to ensure that our security agencies are well-cared for. We must also address unemployment; otherwise, more young people will be drawn into the insecurity. Technically, it is critical, but the equipment is limited. The men in boots must be properly trained and compensated.”
