The Bauchi State Government has dismissed Malam Musa Ahmed Ningi, the Principal of Government Day Secondary School, Kirfi, following his involvement in the illegal sale of government-owned property.
The announcement was made through a statement issued by Garba Muhammad Bashe, Permanent Secretary of the Bauchi State Teachers’ Service Commission.
Alongside the principal, a senior teacher at the school, Adamu Shehu, was also removed from his post for his role in the same incident. The two were found to have collaborated in the unauthorized disposal of government assets belonging to the school.
A four-man investigative committee constituted by the Commission uncovered the misconduct after a thorough review of the situation. The panel found both individuals guilty of selling off 32 scrap student beds, nine jumbo aluminium cooking pots, and an unspecified number of roofing zinc sheets. These items were part of the school’s inventory and deemed public property.
As part of the disciplinary measures taken against them, both Malam Musa Ahmed Ningi and Adamu Shehu were demoted by one grade level. In addition to the demotion, they have been reassigned to different schools within the state to prevent further misconduct and maintain administrative integrity.
According to a follow-up statement from Dahiru Adamu, Information Officer of the Teachers’ Service Commission, both individuals will also be required to refund the value of the items they sold. The total amount to be repaid is ₦597,000.
Furthermore, the former principal has been directed to reimburse an additional ₦72,000. This amount represents the outstanding wages owed to casual workers under his supervision during his time in charge of the school.
The Commission emphasized that these actions were taken in strict accordance with civil service regulations and disciplinary codes. It stated that the goal is to reinforce ethical behavior and ensure that public office holders within the education sector are held accountable for their actions.
The Commission also assured that it is working in collaboration with security agencies to locate and retrieve any of the stolen items that may still be in circulation. The government has reiterated its stance on zero tolerance for corruption and misconduct, particularly within the education system where such acts undermine both student welfare and institutional credibility.
Officials stated that this disciplinary case should serve as a warning to other public servants in the state. The misuse of government property and any abuse of official position will be met with decisive and transparent corrective action.
Stakeholders in the education sector have widely supported the move, describing it as a necessary step toward sanitizing the system. Many have praised the state government and the Teachers’ Service Commission for taking swift and clear action against unethical practices.
Some education professionals have also called for the installation of stronger monitoring systems across public schools in the state. According to them, regular audits and transparent procurement records will help deter similar incidents in the future.
The Bauchi State Government has pledged to continue strengthening its internal controls and oversight mechanisms. According to the Commission, a major part of Governor Bala Mohammed’s education reform agenda is to eliminate administrative lapses and uphold high standards of conduct across all public institutions.
As investigations continue and recovery of the stolen property progresses, the state government has urged all school administrators and civil servants to demonstrate integrity and professionalism in the execution of their duties. It warned that further breaches would attract similar disciplinary actions in line with public service rules.
