Bayelsa Flood: Still on Sadiya Farouq’s putrid comments

We think that every sensible Nigerian is aware of how the climate crisis is changing the normal situation of all things in the country as at now, thus it is no news that flood has wreaked unimaginable havoc on different states of Nigeria. Unlike others, the level of damages that this raging water caused is so pellucid in Bayelsa State that even the blind could see it and the deaf could feel it too.

A study by the research desk of TrackNews Nigeria revealed that almost, if not all, houses in the low-income communities of the state have been submerged by flood beyond what anyone could think. The sad picture sends one’s mind back to the ugly memory of 2012 amidst the oil theft and spills here and there.

But as Bayelsa is fighting harder to curb this troubling time, Hajia Sadiya Umar Farouq, a black chameleon with the mantle of leadership of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, woke up one day to add bitter salt to the injury that is yet to be treated. We demand the rationale behind her bogus comment that Bayelsa State is not one of the top 10 states most impacted by flood. To us, it seems she does not know what her ministerial appointment entails and interestingly, we are not flabbergasted at the snail development she made during her tenure. Like one bookish lord, we know she would end up being a huge failure.

We wonder what made her make such a blatant statement. Despite the indefatigable efforts of Sen. Duoye Diri, the incumbent Governor of the Bayelsa State, to provide relief materials to the displaced victims, it is not portrayed fully because what Bayelsans experience as at now as a result of the flood situation is more than what the meager resources of the state could cater for. Well, we understand that she is being used as a puppet by some politicians for another war of improprieties but it is our prayer that this mission does not come true.

We think she has some hidden plans but whatever this might be, we are saying again that the flood in Bayelsa is a bigger one! Who knows if she is trying to block the entire Niger Delta region from accessing foreign aid? It is a no-go area and she should know that no one would take it lightly with her, no wonder that some lawmakers said that they are dismayed when they read the news too. Whatever she might utter, we reiterate that it is actually beyond the four walls of her thinking faculty. We pray for a safer Bayelsa, may the Lord help and bless the land for all and sundry.

Editor’s Note: Written by Mohammed Taoheed, the Senior Editor on Politics Desk, this editorial piece is a response to the spurious claim by the federal lawmaker over the Bayelsa flood situation.
