Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports

Douye Diri, the governor of Bayelsa State, has revealed that the recent flood that ravaged his state has cost the state government N2 billion so far.

The governor of the oil-rich state revealed this on Thursday morning during an appearance on the Arise TV morning show.

Remember that Governor Diri accused the federal government of paying lip service to the state’s flooding situation, particularly in response to providing relief materials to mitigate the effects.

“What we have spent so far, I have not asked for the books,” the governor explained. It would be in the range of N1.5 billion to N2 billion or so. When I request the books, I will be given the total expenditure, because, as I previously stated, medicals and pharmaceuticals are handled differently, as is our movement to these communities and what we give to them.”

He also revealed that he has not left Bayelsa since the flood began, and that he has formed a flood management committee dedicated to specific areas, particularly the state capital, IDP camps, and local government areas.

“So, by the time we get everything together, we’ll make public how much the state government has spent so far in this natural calamity that has struck my state.”

“The Governor of Akwa Ibom State was here and gave us a cheque of N100m; the former vice president and presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was here, and he gave us cash of N50m; then the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi was here, and he gave the IDP camp in Yenagoa, t

“I also recall the Governor of Lagos State writing to me and promising to donate N50 million.”

“God bless Azibapu of the Azikel group of companies, a son of the soil, who also paid us a visit and promised to donate N350 million in food items.” Please understand that this was a pledge of a donation worth N350m, and we will make it public as soon as those donations arrive.

“I believe these are the donations we’ve received so far,” he said.
