…As Gov Diri Promises More Devt Projects For Southern Ijaw

Bayelsa State Government on Wednesday said it would commence supply of critical medical equipment approved for some health facilities in Southern Ijaw area of the state including the Olugbobiri General Hospital next week.

Governor Douye Diri disclosed this when he paid a courtesy visit to the Ebenanawei of Olodiama Clan. His Royal Majesty King Napoleon Orianzi at Olugbobiri Town on the sidelines of his campaigns in the area.

The Governor, who spoke through his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, equally promised to deploy some medical doctors to the general hospital to improve healthcare in Olugbobiri and other neighbouring communities.

He said his administration would continue place premium on the health sector because of the coterminous relationship between good health and wealth creation.

Addressing a mammoth crowd of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters at Olugbobiri, hometown of the running mate to the All Progressives Congress candidate in the November 11 governorship election, Governor Diri thanked the Chiefs and people for their warm reception and show of love.

He, however, implored them to translate their show of solidarity into reality on the day of election by voting massively for the PDP to ensure continuity of good governance as well as attract more developmental projects to the community.

Governor Diri stressed that the main opposition party, APC, in the state had brazenly demonstrated hatred for Olugbobiri and Southern Ijaw as a whole by not only depriving their illustrious son, Chief David Lyon, the opportunity to re-run as governorship candidate but also stripped him of his surveillance contracts.

His words: “I want to remind the good people of Olugbobiri that the man who gives you umbrella when it is raining is your true brother. A man who deceived your son who almost became a governor cannot be your true friend or brother.

“If a child fails exam, is he not to repeat the class? Do you drive away the child from the school? APC drove away your son, David Lyon, from school because they never mean well for you.

“But PDP means well for you. Are you aware that the Governor had already approved new equipment for your hospital? And we are going to supply them by next week and even post more doctors to this place.”

In their separate remarks, the Senator representing Bayelsa Central, Senator Konbowei Benson, the Chairman of Southern Ijaw LGA. Mr Lucky Okodeh and the Chairperson of Apoi/Olodiama Rural Development Authority, Mrs Amaran Kontei Leah, noted that their constituency has never had it so good.

They all praised the Governor Diri-led Administration for the unprecedented number of political appointments and development projects in the area, while calling on the people not to sell their future to politicians who never meant well for them.

Others who spoke at the rally included the Member representing Ogbia Federal Constituency and Director General of the Diri/Law Campaign Council, Hon Mitema Obordor and the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Federal Projects, Mr Basil Kenbo.

Speaking earlier at the Ebenanawei Palace, the Paramount Ruler of Olugbobiri, His Royal Highness, Chief Clifford Mangiri, extolled the leadership qualities of Governor Diri, which he noted, had contributed to the prevailing peace and stability in the state.

Chief Mangiri, who expressed gratitude to the Prosperity Administration for continuing with the Yenagoa-Oporoma-Ukubie Road now at Angiama, appealed for the construction of arterial roads to connect more communities in the area including Olugbobiri.

He said: “We heartily welcome the Miracle and peace-loving Governor and his team to Olugbobiri Kingdom. I must say we are very much pleased with your style of governance.

“Since your Administration came on board, we have been having relative peace in Bayelsa State due to the effort you put into security matters. Your campaign is based on peace and orderly conduct of election,” Chief Mangiri noted.

Highpoint of the visit was the presentation of a lantern and a Bible to the Governor in addition to special prayers for the success of the Peoples Democratic Party in the forthcoming election.
