The Bayelsa State Government has announced that there will be no restriction of movement during the state’s monthly environmental sanitation exercise scheduled for Saturday, 28 June 2025.
The exemption has been granted due to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB)’s Mop-up Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and the National Common Entrance Examination, both of which are slated to take place on the same day.
However, the Ministry of Environment has directed that all markets, shops, offices, and non-essential public places remain closed between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., the official hours of the sanitation exercise.
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Ebi Ben Ololo, residents were urged to participate actively by cleaning their premises, cutting overgrown grasses, clearing drains, and opening up natural waterways to ensure the free flow of water and reduce the risk of flooding.
The ministry described the exercise as a civic duty and called on the public to demonstrate collective responsibility in promoting a healthier and more sustainable environment.
