The Councilor representing Ogbia Ward 8 in Bayelsa State Hon. Jerome Williams Ebhela has lamented the rate of unemployment in the state, saying there is a need for the unemployed to acquire skills and entrepreneurship in order to move out of the unemployment market.
He made the remarks at the flag-off ceremony of the 2nd phase vocational training programme, he sponsored, held at the Ward headquarter Imiringi, in Ogbia Local Government area on the first of March 2021.
As part of efforts to further create employment for the teeming populace, Hon. Jerome said his target was to lift at least 200 members of his ward out of the unemployment market before the end of the his tenure.
The first phase of the vocational skills was, Installation of DStv, Mytv, Gotv and others. This second phase comprises of women, the program include: Make-Up, Gele Tying, and Bridial Hairstyling.
According to Hon. Jerome, “You will agree with me that there are no white-collar jobs. That is why we are training 60 constituents today to take them away from the unemployment market”.
While urging the participants, mostly, women and youths, to be attentive and learn the trade properly in order to make use of it after learning, he promised to further empower those that perform well after the training to start the business they learned, assuring that he would give them the materials or stipends to start-up whatever they have learned he added.
