SOME top officials of the Bayelsa State Government have expressed delight over the possibility of the state hosting major golf championships beginning from the second quarter of 2019.

The officials led by the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson stated this on Thursday when they took time off to play the elitist game.

Iworiso-Markson described the golf course located inside the New Yenagoa City as international standard that can attract PGA tournaments.

He said the Restoration Government of Governor Henry Seriake Dickson had invested in the golf course because of the economic potentials of the project.

He explained that when fully completed the golf course would boost the economy of the state as professional golfers will find Bayelsa suitable to visit.

According to him “You can see what this administration has done. Golf is a major sports across the world and having an international golf course like this is certainly a thing of joy. This golf course will attract more investors to the state.

“We are in an era where over dependence on oil has become very dangerous. So as a way of diversifying our economy we are investing in sports, agriculture culture and tourism. And so we believe in the economic potential of this project.

“This place is part of the New Yenagoa City. A smart city we are building that has certain features like the Golf Estate, Castle Hotel, the new GRA, among others. So we are calling on investors to take advantage of what we have”.

On his part the Special Adviser to the Governor on Investment, Cyril Akika said all over the world golf is a big business and to have a standard course in Bayelsa has further increased the economic power of the state and thanked Governor Dickson for the investment.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser on Sports Development, Michael Kalango called on lovers of golf to be ready for major events that will be hosted by the state and commended Governor Dickson for his foresight.
