Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports

With a 92.8 percent success percentage among students who took the exam in the state, Edo State emerged as the top state in the 2021 diet of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) exams.
In addition, the state placed second overall among public schools in Nigeria in 2021 for exam pass rates, according to a release from yesterday.

On its Twitter account, it cited recent statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), WAEC, and Statisense.
According to the data, Edo topped the national standings with 92.8 percent of students passing the exams with five credits, including English and Mathematics. Enugu State was close behind in second place with 92.7 percent, followed by Anambra in third place with 92.2 percent, Benue State in fourth place with 91.5 percent, Ebonyi in fifth place with 90.5 percent, and Cross River State in sixth place with 90.2 percent.

Benue came in third with 91.7 percent, Edo was second with 93.5 percent, Ebonyi was fourth with 91.3 percent, and Anambra was fifth with 91.3 percent in the ranking of the performance of public schools that submitted candidates for the exam. Enugu State came out on top with 93.9 percent.
“Starting with the basic education sector, the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration has over the years made extensive changes across the ecosystem of education.

The reforms are spreading to other facets of the state’s educational system, as seen by the several public school teachers in the state who have been recognized nationally for their dedication to service and inventiveness in the classroom.

The Nigerian Union of Teachers honored the governor with the title of NUT Governor of the Year in 2019 in recognition of his extensive improvements and achievements in the state’s educational system.

In the meantime, the administration of Edo State has begun mobilizing industry participants for the successful implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), calling for enhanced cooperation to promote long-term peace and development in the state.

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, was quoted in a statement as saying that the state would be able to attract more investment into the sector with careful implementation of the new law at a one-day oil and gas stakeholders’ meeting organized by the Edo State Ministry of Mining, Oil and Gas in Benin City.

The forum, with the theme “Effective Implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA): A Strategic Tool for Sustainable Peace Among Stakeholders,” was intended to foster peace and improve collaboration between the government, oil- and gas-producing communities, and other stakeholders, according to Obaseki, who was represented by the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Hon. Monday Osaigbovo.

According to him, the oil and gas industry still constitutes the bulk of the Nigerian economy. As a result, it needs to have its contributions to our communities and the state reevaluated, and the implementation of the PIA is one such evaluation.

The forum’s goal is to give attendees the chance to openly debate methods to improve the way PIAs are implemented.

Obaseki reiterated his administration’s dedication to improving the quality of life for citizens in the three local governments that produce oil and gas, namely Orhionmwon, Ikpoba Okha, and Ovia North East.
