The Nigerian military with reinforcement have successfully repelled ISWAP attack on Damasak after over four hours of fierce battle.

Residents said the insurgents came in over 30 gun trucks and headed towards the military base in Damasak where they engaged them in a fight forcing the Nigerian troops to tactically withdraw.

“While the terrorists were having a temporary field day, troops from Niger republic arrived to join force with the Nigerian military and with the air support from the Nigerian Airforce, the terrorists were pushed back,” a resident, who did not wish to be mentioned told TrackNews Online

According to the residents of Mobbar local government area of Borno state, they counted over 30 gun trucks used by the insurgents when they arrived in Damasak.

Residents said there was a report last week that the insurgents were gathering with the intention to attack in their usual character, and the military were adequately informed but told residents not to panic as they have the capacity to contain the militants.

“When we saw Boko Haram gathering between Songia settlement and Geidam Chuku village, which is in Niger republic, we informed our soldiers so they will keep an eye and also patrol Songia settlements and Bulabulin area in Yunusari local government area of Yobe state, as well as around Geidam Chukwu axis. That was exactly one week ago,” a resident who prayed not to be mentioned told TrackNews Online

According to him, they were not surprised to see the insurgents coming to attack.

“We saw the time they were coming to town. They passed without attacking us and headed towards the military base before they started firing and everybody began to run into hiding,” he stated.
