Borno Speaker, Lawan urges constituents to obtain PVCs ahead of 2023 polls

Rt. Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan, Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, has urged his constituents and the good people of the state to obtain their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) in order to exercise their franchise in the 2023 general elections.

Lawan specifically informed his constituents (Guzamala Local Government Area) that their PVCs would continue to be their sole means of electing leaders in the upcoming general elections.

Recall that Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, through the office of the Head of Service, Barrister Simon Malgwi, declared a two-day public holiday from Thursday, July 21st to Friday, July 22nd, 2022, to allow citizens to obtain PVCs during the short break.

In a statement he personally signed and made available to journalists yesterday, Nigeria’s longest serving Speaker stated that “it was only through the PVCs that Nigerians could exercise their voting right for the candidate of their choice in 2023.”

He urged the people of Guzamala, Borno, and the country as a whole to take advantage of the ongoing registration process and obtain their PVCs if they wanted a better future in 2023.

The Speaker urged Nigerians not to lose hope in the country’s leadership, saying there were clear signs that the country was on its way to gaining the full dividends of democracy by having Tinubu/Shettima as Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidates on the platform of the great ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

“I want to encourage our family members, friends, colleagues, traditional leaders, market women and men, students, teeming youths and neighbors, trade unions and organizations to vote in the upcoming elections.” According to Lawan.

He does, however, urge leaders to establish governance institutions so that the country’s democracy can stand on “firm ground” for the benefit of future generations.
