President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, January 25, 2019, suspended the embattled Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Walter Onnoghen and appointed Mr Ibrahim Tanko Muhammed from Bauchi state as acting CJN.

According to President Buhari’s media aide, Bashir Ahmad, who shared the news on his Twitter page, Onnoghen was suspended based on the order of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

TRACK NEWS gathers that the acting CJN, Muhammed was sworn in by President Buhari this afternoon at the council chamber of State House Presidential Villa, Abuja.

See Ahmad’s tweet below:

Justice Onnoghen is facing trial over alleged false asset declaration brought against him by the Code of Conduct Bureau.

Recall that early Friday, CJN Onnoghen dispelled some media reports suggesting that he has resigned from office.

The CJN made his position known through his media assistant, Awassam Bassey, on Friday, January 25.

The CJN urged Nigerians to disregard the rumour and added that he is still performing his role as Nigeria’s chief law officer.
